COACHING REGISTRATION PROCESS
The additional resources listed below are not required to apply to be a coach, but need to be completed prior to coaching before the season begins.
USA Hockey registration should be completed first, but the subsequent items do not necessarily need to be completed in a specific order.
USA HOCKEY REGISTRATION
You will need a new USA Hockey number each year.
Print and save your USA Hockey number. You will need it for additional steps in the coaching registration process.

MN HOCKEY BACKGROUND SCREENING
Background screenings are valid for two years.
If you completed a background check in 2023-2024, it is valid for the 2024-2025 season.

Safesport Training
SafeSport Core Training and Refresher Training are each valid for one (1) calendar year.
Please Note: You must complete SafeSport training every year.
The first time you take SafeSport, register for the SafeSport Core Training Course.
Once you have completed the SafeSport Core Training Course, there will be a Refresher Course for individuals who need to re-certify. Users completing the SafeSport Refresher Course will be certified for an additional season.

Age-Specific Modules
Age-specific modules must be completed to support the level of team you would like to coach (only needs to be completed once per age level).

COACHING EDUCATION PROGRAM (CEP)
All coaches need to participate in the Coaching Education Program (CEP). Make sure to keep your CEP number and know its expiration date.
There is a fee for each class which varies based upon level.

CONCUSSION REQUIREMENTS
All coaches must complete a concussion certification course and the MN Hockey Concussion form.
Most often, the Age-Specific Module will count towards your concussion certificate. If your module is outdated, you may need to complete the concussion certificate requirement via other options:

Concussion certificates are good for 2 years.
The Age-specific Module or concussion certificate will be uploaded in the Coaching Registration link. Additionally, the MN Hockey form will be completed in the Coaching Registration Link
